The Swedish Online Gambling Trade Association (BOS) recently submitted a memorandum to the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), calling for an acceleration of the approval process and a clear definition of regulatory boundaries for emerging gambling products, including crash games, arcade-style content, video bingo, social interactive live casinos, and game shows. BOS emphasized that these games, which combine traditional casino mechanisms with video game elements, should be included in the existing definition of casino games under the Swedish Gambling Act.
BOS Secretary General Gustaf Hoffstedt pointed out that regulatory uncertainty severely restricts the innovation capacity and market competitiveness of licensed operators, delaying the entry of novel games into the legal market. He said, "The rapid introduction of innovative and compliant products is crucial for both the licensed market and consumers."
Data shows that by 2025, 72% of Swedish players will struggle to distinguish between legal and illegal gambling products, increasing consumer safety risks. BOS believes that clear regulation will help licensed merchants compete with the black market and prevent the spread of illegal gambling.
Therefore, BOS suggests that the SGA take three measures: clarify the legality of new game formats, confirm that licensees can provide related games under controlled conditions, and publish detailed FAQs to enhance industry transparency.
