Argentinian politician Diego Garcia Reyna has called for public support for a bill aimed at combating child gambling addiction and regulating the country's online gambling industry.
He has shared an online form on X, through which citizens can register their approval of the bill—this is one of the many gambling bills that have received bipartisan support.
Garcia Reyna, a representative of the Radical Civic Union in Buenos Aires, is trying to garner public support, in response to what he perceives as a deadlock within the Buenos Aires legislative body.
The bill proposed by Garcia Reyna's party has been slowly progressing through the legislature since it was introduced at the end of last year.
It would establish a biometric verification system on online gambling sites and strengthen the regulation of licenses and social media.
Garcia Reyna has criticized Buenos Aires Province Governor Axel Kicillof and his local government for "turning a blind eye."
Argentina does not have a unified iGaming regulatory law, with each of the 23 provinces regulating independently.
In his social media post, he also stated: "Online gambling is growing uncontrollably," and: "Our bill aims to prevent child gambling addiction."
The video shared with the form mentioned domestic news reports, stating that gambling addiction has become an increasingly serious problem within schools.
The Association of Private Schools in Argentina has complained that schools are offering advertisements and free rewards to children, getting them addicted, while parents and teachers remain unaware.
The form requires the provision of a national identity card number to ensure that only Argentine citizens can provide their signatures.
