A case involving the illegal detention and unfortunate death of a young Chinese man who jumped from a vehicle in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, has been swiftly solved by the police. Two Cambodian men were arrested within three days of the incident on suspicion of illegal confinement and causing death. The case may involve an illegal "park" employment scam and is under further investigation.
The incident occurred at 3:15 AM on July 31, 2025, when a tuk-tuk driver near Highway 3 in the Gong Wu district of Phnom Penh found the body of a young man and reported it to the police. Initially suspected to be a homicide with the body dumped, further review of surveillance and evidence at the scene confirmed that the victim died from injuries sustained while escaping from illegal confinement by jumping from the vehicle.
The deceased was a 24-year-old Chinese citizen, Wu Yonglong (transliterated), who had just arrived in Cambodia on the evening of July 30 and soon fell into a trap. Surveillance footage captured the suspect vehicle in the area before the incident, and the body was found 45 minutes later.
The two suspects, 43-year-old Nuo Jinha and 38-year-old Song Ladi, were arrested on August 1 and 2, respectively. They confessed to luring Wu Yonglong into their vehicle outside Phnom Penh International Airport, attempting to take him to a "park" in Boge Mountain, Gongbu Province. During the journey, they snatched his phone, which led to his resistance and eventual death from jumping out of the vehicle.
The police found severe trauma to the back of the victim's head and personal items including a passport, mobile phone, and ATM card at the scene. The police advise foreigners in Cambodia to remain vigilant, avoid illegal intermediaries and "black parks," and to work or enter the country through official channels. The investigation is ongoing, and the involvement of an international criminal gang has not been ruled out.
