The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) recently issued a notice, warning consumers about several unauthorized websites falsely claiming affiliation or possession of its license.
The notice points out that these websites misleadingly mention MGA licensing and regulatory approval, which may mislead players into believing their legitimacy. MGA clearly states that it has no relationship with these websites and reiterates that only operators with official permission are protected under the Maltese regulatory framework, including consumer rights, anti-money laundering protocols, and responsible gaming measures.
The regulatory body emphasizes that players should verify the authorization status of operators through the MGA official website before using any gambling services, to avoid financial losses or security risks. MGA maintains a list of licensed entities for consumer reference.
This warning comes as MGA strengthens enforcement and regulatory cooperation. Recently, the authority reached a bilateral agreement with the Malta Financial Services Authority and disclosed in its 2024 annual report that its revenue reached 84.1 million euros (approximately 98.5 million US dollars). That same year, MGA issued 17 new licenses and imposed 25 administrative fines.
MGA once again reminds players that using unauthorized gaming URLs poses significant risks, and it is crucial to ensure that the selected operator is on the official permission list to protect legal rights and financial security.
