The Philippine National Police reported on Wednesday that they successfully thwarted an attempt to influence judicial fairness in Taytay, Rizal Province. Two suspects were criminally detained for allegedly offering financial benefits to the family of the victims in the "missing cockfighters" case, in exchange for withdrawing legal actions.
According to the information disclosed by the police, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, through a meticulously arranged law enforcement operation, controlled the two suspects, a man and a woman, on the spot for alleged illegal activities. Acting Police Chief Jose Merlencio Natacitez has instructed the investigation department to conduct an in-depth investigation into the incident to identify potential instigators behind it.
Currently, the two suspects are detained by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, facing charges related to obstructing judicial fairness. The police leadership emphasized that they will thoroughly investigate all individuals potentially involved in the case and legally initiate corresponding lawsuits to ensure the integrity and fairness of the judicial process.
This incident is related to the "missing cockfighters" case that has been under scrutiny since 2021. The case involves the disappearance of at least 30 individuals related to the electronic cockfighting industry in the Luzon region, with some law enforcement and gambling industry personnel already involved in the investigation. Despite the passage of time, the victims' families are still seeking justice.
The Presidential Office of the Philippines has previously expressed concern about this case and has requested law enforcement agencies to fully advance the investigation. This arrest operation demonstrates the authorities' attitude towards such alleged acts of obstructing justice, as well as their commitment to upholding the dignity of the law.
