Walter Bauer, CEO of the River Bottom Resort, said that although Thailand is currently moving towards legalizing gambling, this will not have a significant impact on Vietnam.
The challenge of gaming tax in Vietnam
On regulatory matters, Ball discussed the impact of gaming revenue tax rates on operators’ ability to provide benefits to players, citing Vietnam’s 35% tax rate as an example.
He stressed the interrelationship between various factors that influence the performance of the industry and stressed the importance of investment in modern gaming facilities, citing the example of upgrading obsolete slot machines at the River Bottom Resort.
Thailand gradually moves towards legalized gambling
Thailand's parliamentary casino committee has completed a draft proposal to levy a 17 percent tax on casino operations.
The move marks an important step towards the legalization of gambling in the country, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive framework that combines gambling with various leisure activities.
The proposed legislation will go to the House of Representatives and is expected to receive strong bipartisan support.
Once approved by parliament, the bill will go to the cabinet where it is expected to pass smoothly and be in line with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's economic agenda.
