DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is a Philippine holding company that invests in gaming and leisure businesses, including digital bingo and digital sports betting platforms. The company announced that its operations will not be affected by the country’s recently announced ban on offshore online gambling operators.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently announced the ban on former Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) during his State of the Nation Address.
The President directed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) to “phase out and cease operations” of POGOs, now known as Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs), by the end of the year.
Pagcor told GGRAsia that the ban on offshore gaming operators will have minimal impact on the Philippine gaming industry as this segment accounts for less than 5% of gross gaming revenue (GGR).
“DigiPlus will continue to operate and assures its stakeholders that it is exempt from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order banning all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs),” the company said in an announcement. Impact."
"DigiPlus is not a POGO or Internet Gaming License Holder (IGL) as defined by Philippine law," DigiPlus President Andy Tsui said in a press release.
The company stressed that it “serves customers within the Philippines” and is required to have “physical branches throughout the country.”
According to the announcement, as a local gaming operator, DigiPlus must establish physical gaming sites across the country before launching its digital gaming platform.
DigiPlus manages digital entertainment platforms BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, Perya Game and BingoPlus Poker.
The company also mentioned that it had to obtain various licenses to offer a range of games such as traditional bingo, electronic bingo, electronic gaming services, sports betting, specialty games, and poker.
Mr. Tsui added: "Fans of DigiPlus products will be happy to know that their top-tier platform will continue to operate without interruption and will not be affected by the recent presidential announcement."
DigiPlus reported first-quarter consolidated revenue of Php 13.63 billion (US$233.2 million), a 226.3% increase from the same period last year.
