FanDuel has ended its brief reign as the sole digital sports betting provider in Washington D.C., with gambling revenue of $23.2 million in June and nearly $10 million in the two weeks of July. The operator's revenue report was released last week by the D.C. Lottery.

Earlier this year, FanDuel took over the lottery's digital sports betting operations, previously managed by the contractor Intralot's criticized GamBetDC application. Four years after the launch of GamBetDC, the lottery announced in March that it had signed a subcontract with FanDuel to take over the online betting service, which officially went live in April.

Since then, the D.C. Council has approved a more competitive market with the lottery allowing Intralot's sports betting contract to expire on July 15th. As Intralot no longer provides digital sports betting services to the lottery, FanDuel was temporarily shut down, relaunching days later in partnership with Audi Field.

Currently, sports betting revenue in the District of Columbia is reported by two entities. D.C. Lottery reports the financial conditions of its platforms—GamBetDC (May 20, 2020, to April 15, 2024) and FanDuel (April 15, 2025, to July 15, 2024). Going forward, the agency will no longer have platforms. The Lottery and Gaming Control Board currently reports the financial status of in-person sports betting. The agency will start reporting the financial status of live digital operators later this month.

Within three months, bettors placed 1.9 million bets on FanDuel

In the three months when FanDuel was the only betting provider in the district, bettors placed 1.9 million bets. In comparison, from October 2023 to July 2024, bettors placed 1.3 million bets on GamBetDC's digital platforms and kiosks. The total amount bet on FanDuel during these three months was $78.5 million (£61.6 million/€71.9 million), with bettors winning $65.5 million, meaning FanDuel earned $13 million in revenue. It paid $4.5 million in taxes to the city in these three months, with revenues of $3.6 million in June and $1.7 million in July.

These figures pale in comparison to the same few months after GamBetDC launched in 2023. From April to June 2023, D.C. punters bet $16.7 million, with GamBetDC earning $1.5 million, all of which went to the municipal government.

The lottery agency also released GamBetDC's June and July data. This data comes from GamBetDC kiosks around the city, which will eventually be replaced by other operators' kiosks. In June, GamBetDC's betting volume was $904,336, with bettors winning $796,400. In July, the betting volume was $846,527, with bettors winning $681,397.

In retail, June's OLG report shows that BetMGM at Nationals Field continued to attract bettors, obtaining nearly $3 million in bets, but the bettors dominated. The hold percentage was 2.76%. Caesars earned nearly $2 million in bets at its Capital One Arena location, with a hold percentage of 8.3%.

FanDuel's holding rate at its Audi Field sports betting was also low—2.5%. Bettors placed bets totaling $518,871.

In June, these three operators were also able to offer digital gambling within two blocks of the sports venues. BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook removed the geofences in mid-July and expanded operations throughout the region.
