USA - The General Affairs Committee of the Nebraska Legislature has proposed a constitutional amendment which, if approved by voters in November, would allow future legislatures to legalize online sports betting. The committee cast a favorable vote of 5-2 during a special legislative session on property tax reform convened by Governor Jim Pillen.
Senator Eliot Bostar's revised proposal (LR3CA) along with related bill LB13 are designed to legalize online sports betting, imposing a 20% tax on betting, with 90% of the tax revenue going directly to a property tax credit cash fund. Senator John Cavanaugh led amendment to the proposal would permit the legislature to legalize sports betting, rather than mandating it. However, some legislators like Senator Jana Hughes are skeptical, unsure whether the bill will face a floor debate.
