Following an investigation in India, Telegram has also encountered trouble in South Korea! Today, Korean media reported that the South Korean police have announced a preliminary investigation into Telegram Company for allegedly allowing the criminal activities of Deepfake.
The head of the National Investigation Headquarters of the Korean National Police Agency, Woo Jong-soo, said at a press conference today that this investigation is related to crimes involving fake videos.
Woo Jong-soo stated, "Telegram not only fails to provide us with account information and other investigative materials, but also does not provide them to investigative authorities in other countries such as the USA." This has led to some crimes based on Telegram being "completely undetectable" to date.
According to data disclosed by the "National Investigation Headquarters" of Korea, from the 26th to the 29th of last month, local authorities collected a total of 88 reports involving Deepfake and sexual crimes, identifying 24 suspects.
In addition, the police are currently conducting a preliminary investigation on 8 Deepfake auto-generated Telegram "bots" and are also extensively investigating Telegram groups that use these programs to synthesize and spread content.
