Google has launched a major update in India regarding its AI assistant, Gemini. This tech giant has introduced a dedicated Gemini mobile app, added support for nine Indian languages, and unlocked powerful new features—aimed at enabling more Indians to use AI for everyday tasks.
The newly launched Android version of the Gemini app allows users to interact with the AI assistant via voice, text, or even images. From planning social events to creating recipes or subtitles, Gemini is always ready to help.
The app provides a seamless multilingual experience, supporting English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Amar Subramanya, Vice President of Engineering for Google Gemini Experiences, said: "We are leveraging the launch of new Gemini features to enable more people to get work done in their preferred language. The Gemini app and Gemini Advanced will now offer versions in 9 Indian languages, helping more people access information and complete tasks in their preferred language."
For iOS users, Gemini access will be rolled out directly from the Google app in the coming weeks. This AI assistant is designed to "enhance creativity and productivity" through its conversational interface.
In a market with increasing language diversity, Google has introduced the powerful capabilities of its large language model, Gemini 1.5 Pro, into Gemini Advanced, covering all nine Indian languages. This unlocks a context window of 1 million tokens, the longest among all widely used consumer chatbots globally.
This extensive context understanding enables Gemini to handle documents up to 1,500 pages long, extensive codebases, or even hours of video content.
New features enable users to upload documents or spreadsheet data for in-depth analysis by the AI assistant.
Gemini can now provide summaries, personalized feedback, data visualizations, and actionable insights from dense information sources such as research papers, legal agreements, or business data.
Indian users can now download the latest Gemini App directly from the Play Store, or get it from here.
Privacy remains a top priority, as user files are confidential and not used to train Google's AI models. The company assures, "We are very excited to see people across India continue to use Gemini in novel and innovative ways."
The update of Gemini reflects Google's ambition in the AI race, while also meeting the needs of India's linguistic melting pot for more inclusive and localized AI experiences.
As AI plays an increasingly important role, tech giants are strategizing to make these powerful tools more accessible and usable by diverse populations around the world.
