Philippine Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada on Tuesday (September 10) hinted at who might be involved in allegedly aiding Guo Huaping's escape from the Philippines.
Villanueva stated that the person Guo Huaping accused of helping her escape had a "Chinese name." When asked if the person Guo Huaping identified was the Chinese fugitive Huang Zhiyang, Villanueva simply replied, "It's a Chinese name." Last June, during a raid conducted by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission in Clark City, Pampanga, Huang Zhiyang was found with five passports, a detail that matches the information disclosed during the senate meeting.
At another press conference, Estrada mentioned that Guo Huaping identified the person as a "Chinese citizen, allegedly fled from mainland China, now in Taiwan," adding, "I heard he is the boss of all POGO bosses." When asked if this person was Huang Zhiyang, Estrada responded, "Very likely."
Guo Huaping, during a Senate hearing on Monday (September 9), refused to reveal the name of the person who assisted their escape. Under pressure from the senators, she later wrote down the name on a piece of paper.
She mentioned that they left the Philippines by boat, initially departing from a yacht in Metro Manila. At that time, the person arranging their escape was not with them, only an Asian woman accompanied them. According to Guo Huaping, the person who helped her escape initiated the action after a clear conflict, believing that the person helped her out of "guilt" for what happened in her life.
As Guo Huaping was unwilling to publicly disclose the identity of the person assisting their escape, Senator Risa Hontiveros noted that the former mayor had already mentioned this person during a previous hearing. Estrada also hinted at the person Guo Huaping wrote on the paper, claiming this person holds passports from St. Kitts and Nevis, China, Cyprus, Dominica, and Cambodia.
On September 10, Philippine Senate President Francis Escudero stated that the foreigners who assisted Guo Huaping and her siblings in their escape should be legally pursued. Escudero emphasized that even if these foreigners are not in the Philippines, they should still be pursued. He also questioned Guo Huaping's claim about no Filipinos assisting her, suggesting that other government officials might be involved.
