On the day before the deadline, Alice Guo, the mayor of Banban City, Philippines, submitted her counter-statement to the Election Commission (Comelec) against the allegations of significant misrepresentation.
Alice Guo submitted her statement on September 12th in response to the false statement charges against her. This submission coincided with the final deadline set by the Election Commission. George Garcia, the chairman of Comelec, confirmed the submission of Guo's documents and stated that the commission had set the final submission date as September 12th after approving her extension request.
Garcia noted that the Election Commission is not targeting Guo personally, as similar cases of false statements are routine matters for the commission. The legal department of the commission also recommended similar charges against another five former candidates.
Originally, Guo was scheduled to submit her counter-statement on August 22nd, but due to a public holiday, it was postponed to August 23rd. Due to severe weather, her lawyer requested a further extension, and the commission eventually extended the deadline to September 12th.
Guo faces charges of human trafficking, illegal activities, and false statements, and plans to return to the Philippines by private plane on September 17th. She and 35 defendants are facing 87 charges of money laundering involving the POGO centers in Banban City and Porac, with the case amounting to approximately 7 billion pesos.
Her corruption case is being tried at the 109th branch of the Capas District Court in Danleng Province. Meanwhile, the Manila court is reviewing her bail petition and has requested the revocation of her birth certificate.
Alice Guo attended a Senate hearing in May following a raid on an online gambling center and has since disappeared from public view. Despite her name being on the immigration watch list, she left the country in July.
