Brazil.- The importance of integrity in Brazilian sports and in the sports betting market was the theme of a meeting between the Ministry of Sports, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).
The meeting discussed the current scenario in Brazil, amid the process of regulating betting houses, also considering international experiences on the topic. The participants highlighted the main challenges and suggested measures to prevent the manipulation of results, which harms both sports and betting.
The president of the ANJL, Plínio Lemos Jorge, commented that the idea was to gather contributions from the market, represented by the association, with the attentive look of IBIA, the world's leading authority in the area, to create an ordinance on the topic.
“Since last year, when the first operations began as a result of police and Public Ministry investigations, the ANJL has been asserting how harmful result manipulations are for the entire sector. These schemes ruin betting houses and also cast doubt on the reputation and credibility of sports events in Brazil. In other words, it's bad for everyone, including honest bettors,” stated Lemos Jorge.
