The Director-General of the Cambodian Immigration Department, Sok Veasna, has called on immigration offices at all levels to strengthen the management of foreigners to prevent various types of transnational crimes.
At a summary meeting held by the Ministry of Interior on the same day, he urged authorities at all levels to enhance the management of foreigners in accordance with Cambodian law to prevent various types of transnational crimes, paying special attention to the entry and exit situations at all ports, especially along the Cambodia-Vietnam border.
He also urged relevant authorities to continue to cooperate with each other to strengthen and improve immigration management capabilities, protect social security, social order, and political stability, and avoid crimes such as crime, online fraud, drug trafficking, and human trafficking caused by foreigners illegally residing in Cambodia.
According to a report released by the Immigration Department, over the past 9 years, from 2014 to 2023, Cambodia has deported 27,331 foreigners who were illegally residing and committing crimes.
In the first half of 2023, a total of 1,038 foreigners suspected of illegal residence, illegal employment, and crimes were successively deported from Cambodia. Among them, Chinese nationals were the majority, totaling 549 people.
