The Ibero-American Corporation of State Lotteries and Bets (Cibelae) celebrated 36 years of driving innovation and transparency in Ibero-American lotteries.
Yesterday, Thursday, October 17, the Ibero-American Corporation of State Lotteries and Bets (Cibelae) celebrated its 36th anniversary, and defined it as "a key moment to reflect on the progress made so far in 2024 and the future challenges."
Javier Milián, president of Cibelae, shared a message: "The 36th anniversary of CIBELAE is a moment of pride for all of us. We not only celebrate the legacy of the institution and all the members and collaborators who are part of it, but we also look to the future with the responsibility of continuing to be a reference in the region. The incorporation of new members and the development of initiatives such as the anti-money laundering certification standard demonstrate our commitment to transparency and innovation. We will continue working to strengthen regulation and good practices in the official gaming sector."
During the celebration, a review was also made of some of the main activities and events that the organization has carried out so far this year.
Between September 30 and October 2, an event on Anti-Money Laundering Prevention and Innovation in Lotteries took place in El Salvador, which had a notable participation. For the first time, actors from the banking system joined the discussion, emphasizing the need to better communicate the high level of regulation that characterizes lotteries. This inclusion marks a milestone for the sector, opening new opportunities for collaboration and strengthening transparency.
Among the most important achievements of the year, reference was also made to the work carried out by the technical commission on Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism around the development and implementation of the first technical standard in this area for the gambling sector. This standard introduces three levels of certification, designed to ensure that lotteries in the region comply with the highest international requirements in terms of regulation and transparency. This certification will provide a key tool for strengthening internal control and public confidence in lotteries.
So far this year, the Board of Directors of Cibelae has approved the incorporation of twelve new members, which strengthens the organization's network. Among the new regular members are:
In addition, eight companies have joined as associate members:
"These additions strengthen the network of collaboration and commitment of CIBELAE to regulation, innovation, and responsibility in the lottery industry at the Ibero-American level," they assured from the corporation.
The technical commissions of Cibelae have begun to implement a new working methodology, aimed at fostering greater participation and diversity of perspectives in the projects they carry out. This new dynamic ensures a comprehensive and collaborative approach in each of their areas of work. Some of the key projects they are working on include combating illegal gambling, updating the gambling map, and developing sustainability guides, among others.
Looking ahead, Cibelae announced that it is working on the creation of a new digital training platform, which will soon be available to its members. In addition, the launch of its renewed corporate website is planned for the short term, offering a modern and accessible tool for its users.
As part of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, Cibelae will organize in November the Responsible Gaming Week, which will include a series of activities, such as the expanded meeting of the Technical Commission of JR/RSC on November 13, and a webinar on the Responsible Gaming Certification Process of the WLA on November 14. In addition, it will support the Responsible Gaming Week of European Lotteries and WLA from November 18, facilitating the participation of members from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Looking ahead to 2025, Cibelae has already confirmed important events, such as the Marketing Seminar "From challenges to opportunities", from March 25 to 27 in Buenos Aires; and the Responsible Gaming Seminar, from June 25 to 27 in Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil), with Lottopar as the host institution and with the support of the World Lottery Association.
