The Ministry of Finance announced this Friday (18) another update on the list of authorized betting houses to operate throughout Brazil until the end of the year. The list now includes four more sites, three operated by Sportvip Group and one by Megapix. There are now 100 companies (221 bets) on the national list and 26 companies (31 sites) on the state list. They can continue operating until the start of the regulated market on January 1, 2025.
The Ministry of Finance included the companies Sportvip Group International Betting, which manages three betting houses, and Megapix Communication and Technology, which manages one. Sportvip was cleared for complying with the regulations required by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance. The latter was included by judicial determination.
The bets listed by the government will be able to continue operating in Brazil during the transition period, which lasts until the end of this year. By then, the SPA will announce the list of companies definitively approved to start operating in the country from January 1, 2025.
It is expected that by November 20, the SPA will announce the names of the approved companies, and they will have to pay a grant of R$ 30 million to obtain the official license to operate. They must also permanently comply with rules to combat fraud, money laundering, and abusive advertising, as well as adopt practices to encourage responsible gambling.
Now, there are 100 companies on the National List, with 221 domains indicated, and 26 on the State List, with 31 houses in operation or in the implementation phase. In the case of the State List, it includes accreditations from the lotteries of Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, and Paraíba. In total, there are more than 230 authorized sites.
Sigap
The deadline for submitting license applications to operate sports betting and online games with the guarantee of evaluation by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting ended on August 20. Until that date, 113 authorization requests were received in the Betting Management System (Sigap).
The government committed to responding to the requests still in 2024 so that the approved companies can operate in the regulated market starting January 1, 2025.
After the government's determination to block all sites that did not present themselves to the Ministry of Finance and the announcement of the first list of companies authorized to operate provisionally until obtaining the definitive license, a flood of requests began in Sigap.
No less than 69 companies presented themselves to the Betting Management System in search of their licenses, without the guarantee that they will be able to continue operating during the transition period. Moreover, as they presented themselves after the date set by the government, they will have to wait for approval to start their operations. According to the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting, for these companies, the period of 180 days for the analysis of the requests now begins.
Currently, there are 259 processes underway, from 251 companies (i.e., some submitted more than one request) and 243 is the sequential number of Sigap, since some processes were not listed due to the lack of completion of the necessary documentation for the finalization of the registration.
