The event took place within the framework of the Provincial Plan for the Prevention of Gambling Addiction among youths and adolescents and was attended by authorities from the Ministry of Health and the IPLyC Buenos Aires.
Argentina.- The president of the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) of Buenos Aires, Gonzalo Atanasof, along with Ariel Parajón from the Subsecretariat of mental health and problematic consumption of the Ministry of Health, led an open talk on the prevention of gambling addiction aimed at youths aged between 14 and 18 who attend Club Atlético Platense.
The talk was held under the Provincial Plan for the Prevention of Gambling Addiction in youths and adolescents and was attended by 80 young people who participated along with their parents and coaches.
“These talks are the initial step for club peers, schoolmates, and parents to discuss the issue of online betting, understand how the network of illegal gambling operates which is where minors start betting, and the importance of recognizing the signs given by a compulsive gambler to try to help,” stated Atanasof, adding: “Know that you are not alone in this matter, there is a state that supports you with various devices for assistance and containment.”
For his part, Parajón emphasized the problematic consumption of technology and stated that “gambling addiction is a mental health issue that affects people and their rights at a very complex time for many families.” He added: “It is very difficult to build well-being without information, hence the importance of working interministerially and in the context of forums and talks like these to bring mental health out of suffering and think of it as a potential for life. We are in a situation of vulnerability against these businesses, therefore the response should not be individual, but collective.”
