Betfair, one of the world's largest betting companies, went to the United States to interview Brazilians about their perspectives on the presidential election, contested between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In a special video made in New York, the Brazilian community spoke about their preference in this election, as well as their views on how the candidates address issues such as the economy and immigration.

New York State is considered one of the five American states with the largest population of Brazilians in the United States. Just in the metropolitan area of the city, it is estimated that 400,000 Brazilians live, making 46th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue known as "Little Brazil" within the USA. According to Brazilians living in the county, there is an advantage of favorable votes for Donald Trump in the election on November 5.

Savu Savulescu, a 47-year-old Brazilian who has lived in the city since he was a child, says his vote in this election will be for Donald Trump. “I was born in Rio, but I was raised here in Queens. I am very grateful to the United States for welcoming me so well. About the elections, I don't have a prediction of what will happen. I'm a bit worried. I think there's a lot of fraud. My vote is for Donald Trump. Donald Trump, for sure.”

When asked by Betfair about the candidates' immigration policies, Brazilians expressed concern about the issue, but not in the expected way. According to João Carlos, 61: “immigration in recent years is completely out of control”. And for Corina Brasil, 61, this rise in immigration has been a real problem for US residents. “It causes violence, people who have no reason to be here,” she vents.

Sérgio Lago, 57 years old, points out that both Trump and Kamala may have difficulties restructuring the US economy. “I can't give you that guess about who wins the elections. We are in such a big mess that we don't know where the economy of this country will end up in the next seven, eight months. We are with a high debt. Actually, I think neither of the two (candidates) can fix the problem that America has now,” commented Lago to Betfair.

Carlos Rocha, 62 years old, and João Carlos, who have lived in the US for more than 20 years, claim that the big problem for those currently living in the United States is the high inflation. “Well, certainly, balancing the American economy is one of the most necessary things for us here in the United States. We are now with very high inflation here,” evaluated Rocha.

Meanwhile, João Carlos feels the difference when fueling and grocery shopping: “Gasoline has increased a lot, supermarket purchases have increased a lot, prices have increased a lot lately.”

Eliene Dias, 46, says that many Brazilians are likely to vote for Donald Trump on the next November 5: “From what I see here, the majority of Brazilians will vote for Trump”.

Meanwhile, Agnaldo Rosa, 53, offers a different point of view, “I am a Democrat, Brazilian is Democrat,” he says. He also believes that the elections are actually already decided, “It's already defined, but who is going to win is a surprise,” he adds. As in the last 180 years, the US presidential elections will take place on the first Tuesday (05) of November. Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris are in a tight race for the White House to govern the world's largest economy for the next four years (2025-2028).

How are the bets at Betfair?

Within the Betfair platform, the former Republican president leads with higher probabilities of winning the elections. Donald Trump has an odd of 1.57 (63% chance) against the odd of 2.78 of the current vice president (37% chance) – it is worth remembering that the lower the odd, the higher the probability of the result occurring.

How are Brazilians betting?

Just in Brazil, more than R$3.8 million reais were bet within the Betfair platform, making Brazil the eighth country in the world that bets the most on the American Elections.

Betfair data still shows that Brazilian bettors prefer Trump and overwhelmingly believe in the former president's return to the White House according to the market within the platform.

According to consolidated data from Betfair, the bets made in Brazil in 2024 reflect a significant preference for Donald Trump: approximately R$1.87 million in bets for the former president and only R$342 thousand on the Democrat.

This follows the global trend, which shows Trump with approximately R$100 million more in bets than Kamala Harris. It is important to consider that Harris announced her candidacy only at the end of July, compared to Trump, who has been in the race all year.

Brazil is the fifth country that bets the most on Trump's victory. On October 7, the Republican candidate received about R$105 thousand reais in bets in Brazil. On the same day, Trump turned the odds and became the favorite for the White House.

American elections move more than R$ 890 million in bets

The markets related to the American elections at Betfair show that bettors have already made more than R$890 million reais in bets worldwide. Just among Brazilian bettors, about R$3.8 million reais have already been bet so far within the betting house.
