Betway, one of the leading global operators of sports betting and online gaming, has withdrawn its license application in Brazil. A company of the Super Group, it was the 24th to be listed in the Betting Management System (Sigap), under the name of Sorento Bay Ltda. The website has just been updated and it states that Betway commits to returning any remaining balance in its users' accounts.
In an unexpected move, Betway, one of the largest global companies in sports betting and online gaming, has given up its operation in the future regulated Brazilian market. It was the 24th company to appear in the Betting Management System (Sigap) of the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance, through Sorento Bay Ltda.
Pre-approved to operate during the transition period, which lasts until the end of the year, Betway has decided not to proceed with its license application to operate in Brazil.
In Sigap, the authorization request still appears: 024 – Sorento Bay Ltda (BETWAY).
The homepage of its Brazilian website still maintains the welcome bonus offer, but when clicking on “Register”, the user is taken to the page that communicates the decision to leave Brazil. Betway does not explain the reasons behind this decision, but informs:
“Dear Betway Customers,
Regrettably, we have decided that we will not continue in acquiring the regulated license offered in the country. We will work with you to return any pending balances.
If you have an account you would like to discuss, please contact us via email at enquiries@betway.com and include your username.
Please refer to our Closure Privacy Notice, which provides you (the data subject) with information on how we will store, protect, and delete your data, as well as whom to contact should you need support or wish to exercise your rights.”
Operations will be terminated next week and Betway is no longer accepting new deposits. Ongoing bets will be honored until next week, and bettors are advised to request the withdrawal of available credits by the 13th. There is still no information about future bets after the official closure of the Brazilian operation.
