EstrelaBet, one of the leading betting houses in Brazil, announces an unprecedented partnership with the Minas Gerais university FUMEC to develop research and actions aimed at responsible gaming and the prevention of gambling addiction. The project includes offering free counseling sessions with psychologists and the use of predictive analysis to identify risk behaviors and promote awareness.
According to Lafaiete Guimarães Moreira, professor at FUMEC and scientific coordinator of the partnership, collaborating with EstrelaBet allows the application of academic rigor in promoting mental health and responsible gaming.
“We seek to investigate characteristics and predictive behaviors for the development of so-called pathological gambling (gambling disorder) among Brazilian players, a topic with still incipient studies in the Brazilian academic environment," he states.
FUMEC may also establish partnerships with academics from other institutions to study the topic.
The partnership with FUMEC also enables online counseling sessions for players seeking guidance on pathological gambling with the customer service team of EstrelaBet, who also receives training to identify and recommend scheduling with psychologists. This is the first free program launched by a company in the sector in the country.
