The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced that it will intensify efforts to combat illegal activities by Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) within the country.
PNP Chief Francisco Rommel Mabilog stated that this move is in response to an order from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which mandates the immediate prohibition of offshore gaming, online gambling, and other related activities in the Philippines.
Mabilog said in a statement, "The Philippine National Police fully supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s Executive Order No. 74, which calls for an immediate nationwide ban on POGOs and all related offshore gaming activities."
Executive Order No. 74 was signed by Marcos on November 5 and published on the 8th, covering POGO, Internet Gaming License (IGL) holders, and other offshore gaming license holders.
The executive order also specifies that the ban on POGO/IGL and other offshore gaming operations should include illegal offshore gaming activities, license applications, license renewals, and cessation of operations.
Mabilog stated that Marcos's issuance of this "decisive measure" also aligns with the PNP's commitment to enhancing national security, maintaining public order, and protecting communities from the adverse effects associated with the operations of online gaming companies, including increased crime rates, social instability, and exploitation of vulnerable groups.
He added, "Following this directive, the Philippine National Police is prepared to strengthen law enforcement actions and work closely with relevant agencies to ensure effective implementation of the ban."
Mabilog mentioned that the PNP's Skimmer Task Force, specifically established to handle activities related to online gaming companies, will lead all efforts related to dismantling illegal operations and ensuring compliance with Executive Order No. 74.
Mabilog encouraged public participation in the government's efforts to combat illegal online gaming companies. He stated, "We urge all citizens to remain vigilant and report any information about suspected online gaming operations in their areas. Together, we can reinforce our commitment to uphold the rule of law, maintaining the integrity and security of the nation."
