Authorities from the Buenos Aires City Lottery held a meeting with representatives from the Financial Information Unit.
Argentina.- Authorities from the Financial Information Unit (UIF) and the Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA) met last week to consolidate joint efforts to continue promoting the effective implementation of UIF Resolution 194/23, which regulates the sector and plans future actions around crime prevention.
The meeting aimed to understand the application of new technologies to the asset laundering prevention processes carried out by the City Lottery, following regulatory updates and the progress of online betting. Additionally, joint initiatives were proposed and evaluated to raise awareness on preventive measures against illegal gambling practices.
Present on behalf of UIF were Ignacio Yacobucci, president; Santiago González Rodríguez, vice president; Juan Ignacio Ogallar, director of Legal Affairs, and Alberto Mendoza, director of Supervision. Representing LOTBA were its president, Jesús Acevedo; director Ezequiel Domínguez and the head of the PLAFT Unit, Carolina Galtieri.
Domínguez and Acevedo are also the compliance officers before UIF, titular and alternate respectively, and as such, they shared specific aspects of the initiatives generated this year in the development of LA/FT prevention policy with a risk-based approach.
After the meeting, the parties assured that raising awareness on asset laundering prevention is one of the central management objectives of LOTBA, in line with the purpose of contributing to the construction of a regulated, safe, and legal gambling market.
“The UIF continues to strengthen collaborative spaces with each of the actors in the National ALA/CFT/CFP Preventive System,” stated the Ministry of Justice of the Nation.

Last October, at the headquarters of the Council of the Judiciary of Buenos Aires City, the framework cooperation agreement with the Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA) was signed.
According to a statement, the signed agreement aims to promote cooperation between the parties to implement coordination tasks, technical assistance, and mutual collaboration in the development of joint dissemination and information activities for primary prevention, awareness, and visibility regarding clandestine gambling, gambling addiction, and responsible gambling.
It also seeks to raise awareness and visibility of the various crimes and infractions surrounding the activity, the violation of regulations related to lotteries, betting, and games allowed or authorized by local laws both physical and online.
They also commit to develop and deliver courses, workshops, talks, and other dissemination initiatives in any modality covering topics on illegal gambling and the risk factors associated with online gambling addiction. These will be taught and delivered at the premises of primary and secondary schools in CABA by professionals and specialists in the field.
