A task force was formed to propose solutions to overcome differences regarding the Decree Law 7/2024, dated July 31.

Spain.- With the goal of strengthening regulations on advertising, stricter controls on access to establishments, and the implementation of educational programs to raise awareness about the dangers of these activities, the Canary Islands community and the State created a special commission.

Through the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands, the agreement reached by the Bilateral Commission of Cooperation between the General Administration of the State and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands to address the discrepancies in Decree Law 7/2024, dated July 31, was made known.

Some articles of this decree have caused legal discrepancies, especially in how these measures fit within the state's jurisdictional framework, which has led to the need to start negotiations.

In August, the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice, and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands published, in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands (BOC), a decree law with urgent measures to correct the situation generated by a judicial ruling that allows the installation of gaming halls less than 300 meters from early childhood and primary education centers, once the moratorium in the gaming sector ends on December 31, 2023.

This set of measures aims to ensure the protection of children in the field of gambling and betting activities through decree law 7/2024, dated July 31.

The Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice, and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Vice-Ministry of Administrations and Transparency, announced that it is working on the new planning of games and betting in the Canary Islands after the regulation that governs it became obsolete.

According to the vice-minister, Antonio Llorens, “Decree 299/2003, of December 22, no longer reflects the reality of the sector, so by virtue of the competencies that the Government of the Canary Islands has, we have begun to process a new regulation with the goal of proceeding to its approval during the next year.”
