The Senate's CPI on Bets may vote this Tuesday (19) to summon artists and digital influencers involved with the promotion of virtual betting platforms. Among them are the lawyer and influencer Deolane Bezerra, singers Wesley Safadão and Jojo Todynho, and comedian Tirulipa. The meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Of the 168 requests on the agenda, 79 are summoning requests (complete list here). The CPI's rapporteur, Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS), is one of those who want to hear from the artists.

"Your participation is essential to understand how influential figures help to expand the betting market and whether they are aware of the possible economic and social harms this activity can cause,” argues Soraya.

The summonses may also extend to businessmen investigated for money laundering. Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF) requests the summoning of Deolane Bezerra in this context. She was arrested in September by Operation Integration, conducted by the Civil Police of Pernambuco, which investigates a scheme involving illegal gambling. The legislator suggests that the influencer testify as a witness.

"Deolane can clarify how influencers have been used by betting platforms to attract consumers. She can also provide details about the network of influencers who promoted platforms under investigation", justifies Izalci.

Deolane's mother, Solange Alves Bezerra, and the influencer's lawyer, Adélia Soares, may also be summoned to testify. Solange was arrested along with her daughter during Operation Integration, but both were released by judicial order.

Authorities

Another batch of requests suggests the testimony of public authorities. Two of them call for the summoning of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias.

The parliamentarians may also vote on an invitation to the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, and the summoning of the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. Also on the list of possible summonses are the presidents of the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), Ricardo Liáo, and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo.

Information

The CPI on Bets may also vote on 57 requests for information. Among them are requests to Coaf for 37 financial intelligence reports (RIFs). The documents may identify operations with indications of crimes. Among the targets are individuals and companies linked to online betting and payment platforms.

The CPI on Bets was established on November 12 to investigate the influence of online betting on the budgets of Brazilian families and the possible association with criminal organizations. The work of the collegiate body will continue until April next year. The president is Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR).
