In less than 40 days, the Ministry of Finance has ordered the shutdown of 5,200 betting sites. The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) of the department sent this Tuesday (19) to Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) the third list of domains for access blocking, with 1,800 new portals that will be barred in the country.

The first list was sent on October 11, with 2,040 sites. The second, on October 31, contained more than 1,400.

The list of authorized bets is composed of companies that requested authorization from the federal government by September 17 to operate betting sites in Brazil and met bureaucratic requirements for registration.

The Ministry intends to conclude by December the definitive analysis process of the first applications received, to verify which betting companies comply with all legal determinations of the more than ten ordinances of the SPA that regulate the activity.

Starting January 1, 2025, only companies authorized by the secretariat will be able to offer bets nationally.

The authorized companies operating until December will also be monitored, as they are in a probationary period, while waiting for all documentation to be analyzed for the conclusion of the process.

Companies that violate any current law in Brazil —including the Consumer Defense Code and the Statute of the Child and Adolescent— run the risk of not obtaining the grant to operate next year.
