There is a renewed effort in Brazil to hold a key vote on the land-based gambling reforms bill before the end of the year.

Brazil

As reported by Senado Noticias, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, hopes to put the bill on the Senate Plenary’s voting agenda next Wednesday, December 4.

If no vote ends up being held on that date, Tuesday, December 10, is another option before the parliamentary recess.

Pacheco noted that Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies has already voiced its support for the bill, which has also been “backed by various sectors.”

He said “several senators” requested during a recent meeting that the land-based gaming bill be submitted to the Senate Plenary.

The bill would legalise bingo halls and casinos in Brazil. These have been outlawed since 1946.

Brazil’s online sports betting and igaming regulations were in a similar position this time last year, having already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies.

In the end, the Senate Plenary approved the bill just before recess.

Brazil’s Ministry of Finance and its Secretariat of Prizes and Bets have subsequently spent the past few months ironing out the regulations ahead of them formally going live on January 1.
