The Bureau of Immigration (BI) successfully deported a Japanese man earlier this year who was arrested as a fugitive in his home country.
The fugitive, named Yohei Sasaki, 36, was arrested on October 1 last year on Mercury Street in Bahay Toro, Quezon City.
He boarded a Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo on the morning of December 9.
The Immigration Bureau ordered his deportation after receiving information about his crimes from the Japanese government.
According to Japanese authorities, Yohei held a valid arrest warrant issued by the Omiya Summary Court in Saitama Prefecture, accusing him of defrauding an elderly victim at a nursing home where he was employed.
He allegedly tricked the victim into investing over 3 million yen in a fraudulent contract-related transaction.
Similarly, this Japanese man is reportedly a member of a Cambodian telecommunications fraud group involved in activities such as kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, and fraud.
Several senior members of the group have been arrested in earlier actions by the Immigration Bureau.
According to Joel Anthony Vidal, the director of the Immigration Bureau, his name has been placed on the Immigration Bureau's blacklist, effectively banning him from re-entering the country.
Vidal stated, "His deportation underscores our strong stance against illegal foreigners who attempt to stay in the Philippines to evade arrest in their home country. Let me reiterate, fugitives and other foreign criminals have no place in our country," he added.
