The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) has requested a meeting with the Ministry of Health to negotiate a technical cooperation agreement with the department and the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance to combat gambling addiction in Brazil.
The request was made by ANJL, which represents, among others, Betnacional, Grupo Aposta Ganha, and Sorte Online, along with the International Gaming Association (Aigaming) and the Brazilian Association of International Game Operators and Providers (Abrajogo).
The request was addressed to Minister Nísia Trindade (Health), Secretaries Regis Dudena (Prizes and Betting) and Giovanni Rocco Neto (Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport) and Sônia Barros, director of the Department of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health.
The agreement would have four goals. One of them is to conduct a survey to identify the profile, gaming patterns, and behavior of Brazilian bettors. The intention is to gather information about the percentage of the population that suffers from gambling disorder and the main triggers that lead these bettors to addiction. The survey would have technical endorsement from the Ministry of Health.
Another point is the use of artificial intelligence in the General Betting System for real-time monitoring of the profile and gaming patterns of Brazilians. This would allow the monitoring of suspicious activities and the identification and prevention of problematic patterns, in the assessment of the associations.
The associations also want a protocol of indicators on responsible gaming to be monitored by operators on their platforms. In addition, they suggest the creation of a working group among the associations, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting, and the Ministry of Health to develop a standard protocol with the definition of minimum indicators that should be monitored by Brazilian operating agents.
The entities also sent a proposal for regulatory guidelines for the monitoring system of problematic gambling in Brazil.
Among the elements that the associations indicate that the system should contain is the identification of the risk profile of each bettor and the possibility of unilateral imposition of restrictions by the operator on the accounts of bettors identified as problematic, such as deposit limits, betting restrictions, and suppression of bonuses.
