The governor of Sihanouk Province in Cambodia, Moeun Sinan, recently stated in an interview with Chinese and Cambodian media that to attract more international tourists, especially from China, Sihanouk Province will continue to enhance public safety and social governance, and crack down on all kinds of illegal activities.
Several media outlets from both countries visited Sihanoukville (also known as West Port, the capital of Sihanouk Province) in mid-month. This well-known seaport city, with its beautiful beaches and islands, fresh air, and rich local cuisine, is one of Cambodia's important international tourist cities. It attracts many foreign tourists and investors with its superior natural resources and well-developed infrastructure.
During the interview, Moeun Sinan mentioned that to provide tourists with a better travel experience, Sihanoukville has added cultural and ecological tourism to its existing convention, sports, and cruise tourism sectors, and is committed to improving the quality of tourism services. The authorities also plan to increase more direct flights to Sihanoukville, encourage social capital to invest in developing new tourism products, and promote the development of food streets and the nighttime economy.
Moeun Sinan vowed to promote the construction of a safe city and protect the safety of residents and international tourists' lives and property. He stated that the Sihanoukville authorities have installed surveillance facilities in more than 400 crowded places and high-risk areas throughout the province. With the continuous improvement of the security system, the police's rapid response and crime handling capabilities have significantly strengthened, and the efficiency of crime detection and handling has greatly increased.
This year, the relevant authorities in Sihanoukville have taken strong actions to crack down on multiple online gambling and telecommunication fraud dens, deporting thousands of foreigners involved in illegal activities.
Moeun Sinan pointed out that these actions demonstrate the Cambodian government's firm determination to purify the social environment and combat crime. He emphasized that the Cambodian government will not tolerate illegal online gambling activities, especially in important cities like Sihanoukville.
