According to recent data released by Entain, the Grand Horse Racing event has always been the most popular gambling event globally.
This iconic horse racing competition even surpasses the Super Bowl and the UEFA Euro 2024 final, highlighting its enduring appeal to casual bettors.
It is noteworthy that 82% of the betting amounts in the UK for this major event are 5 pounds (6.28 USD) or less, which highlights the popularity of this event among amateur players; high stakes are rare, with less than 1% of the betting amounts exceeding 20 pounds.
Although the Grand Horse Racing event has the highest total betting amount, the UEFA Euro 2024 dominates in terms of betting amounts, with England's matches accounting for half of the top ten betting events. Spain's team, defeating England in the final, ranked third in total betting amounts.
The Super Bowl, featuring the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, ranks second and is one of the only two non-football events in the top ten, the other being the Masters Tournament ranked sixth.
The European Football Championship has become a dominant force in gambling activities, with England's matches accounting for half of the top ten betting amounts. The final between Spain and England ranked third in total betting amounts, while several of England's matches during the event ranked highly.
Interestingly, no Premier League matches entered the top 50 betting events, with the FA Cup being the only domestic football event in the UK. In contrast, 60% of the top 50 betting events came from the Euros, while NFL events (including the Super Bowl) accounted for 22%.
Other notable events include the Cheltenham Gold Cup (ranked 16th), the Scottish Grand National (ranked 34th), and the highly anticipated boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul (ranked 36th).
Greg Ferris, General Manager of Sports at Entain, commented on these findings: "According to our global sports betting, the Grand event attracts the attention of hundreds of millions worldwide, and its popularity and ability to attract the attention of casual bettors remain undisputed.
"This year, the Euros truly captured the audience's attention, with England's matches still holding significant appeal for entertainment betting."
