According to Thai media, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in Thailand conducted a raid in the Brilliant District of Bangkok, successfully arresting a Chinese national suspected of human trafficking, identified only as Liao.
Liao is accused of deceiving Myanmar workers into illegally transferring them from Thailand to Cambodia to engage in online work. The Criminal Court of Thailand had issued an arrest warrant for Liao as early as September 5, 2024.
The investigation revealed that Liao was specifically responsible for recruiting and arranging for nine Myanmar male workers to leave the country, handing them over to a Chinese company located in Krong Kaoh Kong, Kaoh Kong Province, Cambodia. These workers were forced into online merchandise sales, facing dire circumstances.
Liao is suspected of several serious crimes, including:
1. Conspiracy to commit human trafficking: Collaborating with multiple accomplices to exploit others through forced labor and enslavement for illegal profit;
2. Participation in a transnational criminal organization: Engaging in transnational criminal activities involving human trafficking and forced labor with at least three other people, regardless of the victims' consent;
3. Coercion and deceptive practices: Using threats, deception, violence, and other improper means to force victims to engage in specific actions and illegally transporting them out of Thailand.
The DSI emphasized that Liao's actions not only violate Thai law but also involve a transnational crime network. This case has become a focus of attention, and relevant departments are further investigating other involved members and masterminds.
The DSI statement pointed out that combating human trafficking and transnational crime is an important task for maintaining social order in Thailand. The government will continue to strengthen law enforcement, protect the rights of victims, and dismantle illegal organizations to uphold the dignity of the law and national security.
