Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister Putha Wichaiya refuted the Myanmar military government's claim that Thailand is partly responsible for the proliferation of Myanmar's online scam centers, stating that the issue is very complex and involves multiple parties.
Mr. Putha, who is also the Minister of Defense in the Thai government of Badong Dan Sinawa, stated that Thailand is not the only party at fault, as these groups operate across borders.
He was responding to accusations made by the Myanmar military regime to local media, which claimed that Myanmar's "neighboring country" made it difficult for the military government to eradicate criminal groups.
Although the Thai government is committed to cooperating with Myanmar authorities to eliminate these scam groups, Putha mentioned that a recent meeting between senior Thai military officials and key figures of the Myanmar military government did not discuss this issue.
He said that the meeting mainly discussed general border affairs and did not involve more details.
