The Times published the 2025 annual tax list, showing the industries that paid the most taxes over the past year, with the gambling industry ranking in the top three.
The owners of Betfred, Fred and Peter Done, along with their family, and the owners of bet365, Denise, John, and Peter Coates, ranked second and third respectively, once again making it into the top five taxpayers in the UK.
Chris Hohn, the founder of a children's investment fund management company, was the only individual who paid more taxes than the owners of the gambling companies, contributing £339.5 million ($423.15 million) to the UK government. The owners of Betfred paid £273.4 million, while the Coates family paid £265 million.
Despite maintaining the same position as last year, the owners of bet365 paid £375.9 million according to the 2024 tax list, while Fred, Peter Done, and their family moved up two places in the previous edition of the list, paying £204.6 million.
It is worth noting that the recent UK budget did not show an increase in gambling taxes for the gambling and gaming sector.
Shortly before, bet365 released its financial report for the fiscal year 2024, which showed a significant increase in profits, while also highlighting a substantial decrease in Denise Coates's salary during this period.
The latest financial report from Betfred was released in July, showing a 25.6% increase in turnover for the fiscal year 2023, but a 98.7% decrease in operating profit.
