Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) recently officially issued a sports betting license to bet365 at a regulatory hearing, making it the company's 15th operating state in the USA. This decision coincides with the week before the NFL season starts, securing ample time for bet365's market launch in Maryland.
With the addition of bet365, the list of sports betting operators in Maryland will include well-known brands such as FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM. A few weeks ago, bet365 just launched in Kansas, and its US expansion plan has covered Tennessee and Illinois since March this year.
The company also plans to release a statement introducing its collaboration with Inspired Entertainment and the launch of virtual sports products. July data shows that the total sports betting handle for all operators in Maryland was $364.1 million, and the entry of bet365 may further boost market growth.
MLGCA has been active recently: in early August, the agency revoked Intralot's lottery contract because the proposal did not meet state procurement law requirements. The approval of the bet365 license marks a proactive move by the regulatory body in ensuring market diversity and competitiveness.
