A bipartisan group of lawmakers are all in on a proposal to raise video gambling limits and winnings in Montana for the first time since 1987.
Senate Bill 153, sponsored by State Sen. Wylie Galt (R-Martinsdale) had its first hearing Friday morning in the chambers committee on Business, Labor, and Economic Affairs and was introduced by two democrats and five republicans, including Speaker of the House Brandon Ler (R-Savage).
The bill, which would apply to machines placed into operation beginning in 2026, raises the maximum bet limit from $2 to $4 dollars and the maximum payout per play from $800 to $1,199, which is just below the $1,200 threshold where gamblers and the business must fill out a W-2G tax form with the federal government.
