According to official figures, the National Directorate of Lotteries and Quinielas received more than USD620m in sports betting, lottery, and quiniela.
Uruguay.- The National Directorate of Lotteries and Quinielas (DNLQ) reported that in 2024, Uruguayans bet approximately USD628m on games controlled by the official state entity. This figure represents a growth of USD62m compared to last year's report.
The games controlled by the DNLQ include Quiniela, Tómbola, Raspadita, and 5 de Oro Revancha, and the Supermatch platform for sports betting, which, according to local media outlet Debate, led the preferences of bettors, outperforming the quiniela. The report does not include information on casinos, which are controlled by another area of the Uruguayan state.
It is worth remembering that in Uruguay, Supermatch is the only authorized sports betting platform and is controlled by the State. The bill to regulate the sports betting and online gaming sector is stalled in the House of Representatives, after receiving half approval from the Senate in August 2022.
According to sources consulted by Debate, experts warn that the sector faces the challenge of ensuring a responsible gaming environment. Authorities have emphasized the importance of implementing awareness campaigns and clear regulations to prevent problems associated with problem gambling.
