A moratorium bill potentially banning new gaming licenses in Iowa is retroactive, meaning it could overwrite an upcoming decision set to be made by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) on Thursday.
It would be second casino ban in the last five years, and it is advancing through the Iowa statehouse after having received approval from the House and is being considered in the Senate.
Iowa Senate President Amy Sinclair said in an interview on Iowa PBS that the bill is retroactive, so it reduces the urgency to pass it before the IRGC makes a decision on Linn County’s application on Thursday.
