In the border areas between Myanmar and Thailand, the activities of scam gangs have become increasingly rampant with the expansion of Chinese grey capital, especially in the areas of Ruai Koko and Myawaddy.
Recently, Colonel Tawi Sodsong, the Minister of Justice, led relevant departments to Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand, to provide assistance to a Hong Kong woman deceived into Myanmar.
They were involved in a scam by a Chinese grey call center gang and became victims of human trafficking. The judicial department worked closely with the Office of the Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, successfully helping 12 Hong Kong Chinese victims to safely return to their country.
Meanwhile, the Thai police are also stepping up their efforts to combat these transnational criminal activities. Recently, the police successfully arrested a Thai man who was hired to transport over 1000 computers and mobile phones to Yala County, Sajiao Prefecture, prepared to be sent to a criminal gang in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
This operation exposed the activities of Chinese grey capital at the Thai-Myanmar border and timely prevented the criminal gang from transporting their equipment to a new operational base.
In addition, the police also cracked a cross-border fraud case in the Langanheng area of Thailand. The involved Chinese national man in Thailand installed SIM card boxes for the criminal gang, helping the fraud group to conduct scam activities through these devices.
During the investigation, the police found that the main culprit of the gang was Chun Chen Liao, a Chinese man who had been wanted in Taiwan for fraud crimes and had multiple criminal records.
With the close cooperation between the Chinese and Thai governments, cross-border crime has gradually become an important topic of security cooperation between the two countries. An assistant minister of security sent by the Chinese government also personally went to the Thai-Myanmar border to cooperate with Thailand in combating call center gangs and human trafficking activities.
This series of actions not only combated criminal activities but also provided timely assistance to the victims, demonstrating the determination of both countries in cooperating to combat transnational crime.
As the investigation deepened, the Thai police also closely monitored the criminal gang that had recently moved to Poipet, Cambodia. Due to the spread and escalation of these criminal activities, the police have intensified their efforts at the Thai-Myanmar border, aiming to completely destroy these transnational criminal networks.
