Recently, Mr. Chen (pseudonym) from Hunan encountered an unusually strict immigration inspection when returning to Cambodia, which gave him a deep impression of the exit process.
Mr. Chen said that as a businessman engaged in business in Cambodia, he is accustomed to frequent travel between China and Cambodia. Although sometimes his friends are questioned during the exit process, he has always been able to pass smoothly. However, this time, his experience at the airport was quite different.
Mr. Chen recalled, "I was questioned for at least 5 minutes when checking in, and another 5 minutes by customs, totaling about 10 minutes, completely breaking my previous smooth experience." He explained that the first questioning occurred at the check-in counter, when he informed the staff that his destination was Cambodia, they began to ask him about the purpose of his trip to Cambodia, whether he had booked a hotel and return flight tickets, and his expected stay duration, and they carefully checked his passport. Since Mr. Chen had a six-year renewal record and often traveled back and forth, after 5 minutes, the staff finally processed his boarding pass.
However, after passing the border inspection, Mr. Chen was again asked the same questions by the border police, which took him additional time. "The duration of this questioning completely exceeded my expectations. I had never encountered such strict checks before, even during the strictest periods of domestic anti-fraud measures, the police would only ask about the destination and then let me pass," Mr. Chen said.
Mr. Chen eventually passed the inspection smoothly, but he mentioned that two young men on the same flight seemed to be questioned longer, and he did not see them until boarding, suspecting they might have been persuaded to return.
Whether the immigration inspection in Cambodia has been strengthened, many people are beginning to pay attention to whether Cambodia has implemented stricter scrutiny measures for foreign entrants recently.
