The UK Gambling Commission has announced that Stake.uk.com will cease operations in the UK market starting next month.
Previously, the Commission investigated a video on social media that featured the Stake logo, which included an adult female actress outside the University of Nottingham Trent. Players have received an email informing them of the operator's exit, stating: "We regret to inform you that a business decision has led to the cessation of the Stake brand's UK operations. On Monday, March 10, 2025, stake.uk.com will shut down its website, and you will no longer be able to access your account."
Stake added that it "advises all customers to log in and withdraw all funds from their accounts before the closure date."
Stake is currently involved in UK football, being the shirt sponsor for the Premier League team Everton. The Commission stated that it intends to write to the Toffees and two other football clubs with unlicensed sponsors, warning them of the risks of promoting illegal gambling sites.
It is worth noting: Last year, Premier League clubs voted to ban front-of-shirt gambling sponsors, which will be abolished at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The regulatory body expects clubs to prove that they have conducted due diligence on their white label partners, and that UK customers cannot transact with unlicensed sites.
If clubs promote unlicensed gambling businesses that transact with UK consumers, they could be prosecuted and may face fines, imprisonment, or both.
This is not the first time Stake.uk.com operator TGP Europe has faced action from the Commission. In April 2023, the company was fined £316,250 ($393,977.90) for multiple failures in anti-money laundering and social responsibility regarding its white label brands.
