The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians is slowly recovering its services from a ransomware attack earlier this week.
According to tribal officials, they were the victim of a ransomware hacking on Sunday, Feb. 9. The attack focused on a number of computer and phone systems, which severely disrupted a number of tribal services, including its health division and casino operations.
The tribe has been working throughout this week to restore its systems. They have successfully obtained new phone numbers for many tribal services.
“We understand and share in our community’s frustration with this attack and the interruptions it has caused…” said Tribe Chairman Austin Lowes in a statement.
