The Special Case Investigation Division of Thailand (hereinafter referred to as the Special Case Division) and the prosecutors handling human trafficking cases held a joint meeting to discuss the latest developments regarding the arrest of the leader of the Myanmar Karen Border Guard, Sochi Tu.
In the meeting, the Special Case Division confirmed that sufficient evidence had been collected to issue arrest warrants for Sochi Tu, the leader of the Myanmar Karen Border Guard, and nine members of his gang.
Additionally, the investigation revealed that 4 to 5 Thai nationals might have played significant roles in the case.
However, the specific timing for issuing the arrest warrants was not finalized during the meeting. According to the procedure, the prosecutors need to further review the submitted documents to ensure no details are overlooked. If there are any doubts, the Special Case Division will supplement the relevant materials further.
Moreover, there is no explicit investigation deadline for the case, as the statute of limitations for human trafficking cases extends up to 20 years. Since 2022, intelligence about an Indian human trafficking network has been gradually uncovered, showing evidence that Sochi Tu served as a commander in this criminal network. Preliminary investigation results indicate that this criminal network consists of nine members, including 4 to 5 Thai nationals.
As for the execution of the arrest warrants, the Thai police have the relevant enforcement authority, but further handling of the case and detention of the suspects will involve multiple government departments. The Special Case Division stated that it is currently uncertain whether Sochi Tu and his accomplices can be successfully convicted and sent to prison.
