The Border Guard Force (BGF) of Myanmar recently established a centralized resettlement site in Myawaddy, accommodating 1030 individuals found during a raid operation in the Shwegyin Valley area, providing them with basic living necessities.
Meanwhile, some individuals remain stranded in the Shwegyin Valley and the BGF-controlled KK Park, waiting for further processing.
At the BGF command center in Myawaddy, the individuals are arranged in a well-equipped resettlement site, offering necessary living facilities, including resting areas, multi-functional activity spaces, pillows and blankets, bathroom facilities, and catering services.
In addition, each detainee receives a large clothing bag for storing personal belongings, ensuring their basic needs are met.
According to reports, most of the detainees are Chinese citizens, aged between 25 and 40. Additionally, there are individuals from Malaysia, Pakistan, India, and African countries such as Kenya and Rwanda.
Some detainees told reporters that they were originally invited to work in Thailand and did not agree to go to Myanmar. Unaware, they were taken to Shwegyin Valley, where they found themselves forced into scam activities, essentially becoming victims of human trafficking. Currently, they are eager to return to their homelands as soon as possible.
At the BGF command center, Myanmar government officials are conducting detailed screenings of all detainees. Those responsible for this task include the Myanmar police, immigration officials, etc., verifying each person's identity information, including name, nationality, affiliated company, passport possession, and entry route, especially whether they entered Myanmar via Thailand.
This screening aims to identify victims of human trafficking and clarify the backgrounds of the detainees to facilitate subsequent repatriation efforts. The Myanmar government stated that it would continue to cooperate with relevant countries to ensure the safe return of victims to their homelands, while also strengthening law enforcement to combat transnational human trafficking and illegal scam activities.
