The latest data from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) shows that the crime rate in the Manila area has decreased by 21.71% from January 1 to February 15, 2025, compared to the same period last year.
A statement released by the NCRPO on Tuesday indicated that in the first 46 days of this year, the total number of major crimes, including murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and car theft, decreased from 852 cases in 2024 to 667 cases, a reduction of 185 cases.
Among these cases, the most significant decrease was in homicide cases, which dropped by 50%. This was followed by a 41.57% decrease in rape cases, a 38% reduction in physical injury cases, a 34.62% decrease in murder cases, and a 23.08% reduction in theft cases.
The police attribute the decrease in crime rate to enhanced public safety measures, including increased police deployment in busy commercial areas, residential areas, main roads, and remote areas, as well as strengthened patrols and surveillance. Additionally, intelligence-led operations against criminal gangs have also played a significant role in reducing crime rates.
In addition to the decrease in crime rates, the NCRPO also reported an improvement in the case resolution rate in the Manila area, which rose from 93.91% in 2024 to 95.84% in 2025. The police stated that this achievement is due to continuous improvements in investigative capabilities of law enforcement agencies and close cooperation with the judicial departments.
Brigadier General Anthony Abellan of the NCRPO stated, "The decrease in crime rates and the improvement in case resolution efficiency fully demonstrate the close cooperation between the police and the community. NCRPO will continue to strive to create a safer living environment for the citizens."
