The National Gambling Commission (Conajzar) of Paraguay has announced a significant increase in its revenue, reaching PYG 175.768 billion (USD 22.2 million) during the year 2024, which represents an 11% increase compared to 2023. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), between 2020 and 2024, Conajzar's tax collection nearly doubled, going from PYG 89.751 billion to PYG 175.768 billion, which is equivalent to a growth of 95.8%.
Carlos Liseras, president of Conajzar, highlighted that the integration with the National Directorate of Tax Revenues (DNIT) has been key to this success and projects that in 2025 the revenues could exceed PYG 500.000 billion (USD 63.3 million). "The DNIT has the necessary infrastructure and logistics to combat illegal gambling. With the merger, we expect to triple the revenues of 2024," stated Liseras in an interview with 920 AM.
Oscar Orué, director of the DNIT, noted that this growth is due to a more rigorous control policy, the formalization of the sector, and the implementation of new regulations aimed at optimizing collection and combating tax evasion.
The integration of Conajzar into the DNIT, established through Law 7438, enacted by President Santiago Peña earlier this year, marks a milestone in the regulation of the sector and will allow more efficient oversight.
