Betfred boss Fred Done has paid out over £1 million ($1.26 million) to Liverpool for winning the Premier League title, with 11 games still to go in the season.
In fact, despite there being 11 games left until the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Betfred co-founder Fred Done believes that the 11-point gap between league leaders Liverpool and second-placed Arsenal is an insurmountable mountain for the Gunners.
This latest move marks the tenth time the betting company has paid out early under Done's authorization for the Premier League. So far, he has been correct seven times, with the most recent being last year when the Betfred boss announced an early payout of £750,000 to reward Manchester City for winning their fourth consecutive title.
In 1998, Manchester United became the first team to receive an early payout for clinching the title, but they subsequently led the table by 12 points, only to lose to Arsenal by a single point at the end of the season.
This was one of the two times Betfred incorrectly predicted the outcome of the Premier League season. However, entering this season, the operator offered the highest odds in the industry for Liverpool to win the league, at 9/1, and Done stated he would use the money to vacation in the Bahamas after the season ends.
Good news: Done's favorite team, Manchester United, is currently ranked 15th in the lower half of the Premier League standings.
Discussing this latest decision, Done said: "As a die-hard Manchester United fan, it pains me to pay out for Liverpool winning their second Premier League title. From the results this weekend, I believe it's clear that Liverpool will win the league convincingly this season. Everyone who supported them and us in winning the title, go get your money."
