Betsson AB Group announces its entry into the regulated Brazilian market, having officially obtained a gambling license from the country's regulatory authority.
Starting from February 25, 2025, Betsson will be able to offer its gambling services in the newly regulated environment. In fact, Betsson is already authorized to operate in several South American neighboring countries including Argentina, Colombia, and Peru, and has been active in the Brazilian market for ten years prior to the recent regulation.
Pontus Lindwall, President and CEO of Betsson, commented on this latest development, stating: "We welcome the introduction of a local regulatory framework in Brazil and are delighted to have obtained the license. This move aligns with our strategy of growth through geographical expansion, and we look forward to providing a safe, high-quality gaming experience to our Brazilian customers."
This latest announcement follows a series of regulatory activities in Brazil, with the country officially opening its online gaming and sports betting market on January 1, 2025. Since then, the country has issued several official licenses, with SPA issuing 21 new fixed-odds betting authorizations earlier this month.
However, under a direct order from the Ministry of Finance, SPA announced last week that it requires its licensed operators to strengthen anti-money laundering policies.
Worth noting: Earlier this month, Betsson reported its Q4 and financial results for the fiscal year 2024—reporting a 22% year-over-year revenue growth to 1.1 billion euros ($1.15 billion).
Additionally, last month, the company was active in neighboring Argentina, announcing the renewal of its sponsorship agreement with Boca Juniors until December 2028.
Furthermore, in January this year, Betsson AB Group entered into a partnership with GamepIAI, which includes coverage of several major football leagues.
