American bettors are set to wager US$400,000 more on March Madness sporting events this year compared with 2024, according to the American Gaming Association (AGA).
The trade association estimates $3.1bn in bets on men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments, up from $2.7bn in 2024.
“March Madness is one of the most exciting times in American sports, with fans fired up for both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments,” said Joe Maloney, the AGA’s senior vice president of strategic communications.
“As legal wagering expands across the US more fans than ever have the opportunity to bet legally and responsibly.”
The AGA is incorporating its Keep Your Cool, the newest part of its responsible gaming campaign, into its March Madness coverage.
Sports betting regulation at a federal level has been under the spotlight again, with two US politicians reintroducing the Safe Bet Act.
