During an interview with the media, Thai Prime Minister Pei Tongtan responded to the latest developments in the draft of the "Comprehensive Entertainment Center Act (including legal casinos)". He stated that the government will not rush to push the draft into the lower house for deliberation, but will proceed according to the normal legislative process. Meanwhile, the coalition government is continuously negotiating and discussing with all parties to adjust and improve the relevant clauses.
The government emphasizes a gradual approach to avoid hasty legislation
In response to external doubts about the speed of the bill's progress, Pei Tongtan clearly pointed out that the government will follow the formal procedures of the lower house for deliberation and ensure that all details are fully discussed. Regarding some members of the upper house who may disagree with the bill, he stated that the deliberation has not yet entered the upper house stage. Once the process progresses, the government will communicate with the upper house and explain the parts that have not reached a consensus, in order to seek broader understanding and support.
The draft has been subjected to public opinion four times, with "acceptable" results
Pei Tongtan also revealed that so far, the bill has undergone four public consultations, each time with "acceptable" feedback, indicating that different views still exist in society. He emphasized that the government will continue to listen to opinions from all sides to ensure that the bill progresses while balancing economic development and social impact.
The lower house may start deliberation as early as April 9
On the same day, the Speaker of the Thai lower house, Wanno, also explained the progress of the bill's deliberation. He stated that when deliberating on the legal draft, each member needs to discuss the content in detail, so the "Comprehensive Entertainment Center Act (including legal casinos)" draft is expected to enter the formal deliberation stage as early as April 9.
As the date of deliberation approaches, the controversy surrounding the bill continues. Supporters believe that the legalization of casinos will help economic growth and tourism development, while opponents are concerned about the potential social issues it may bring. In the coming weeks, the discussion of this bill in Thai politics is bound to become more intense.
